Incidentally the backup software works fine with Vista on the other drive both on the external drive and the other internal drive. My version of the RC is Thursday, July 2, AM. Hi Kevin, I cannot open the link you provided so I cannot obtain your log. Friday, July 3, AM. That's strange. I can get to it from the link to my web site.

Thanks Kevin. Please perform the following steps: 1. Monday, July 6, AM. I can't give advice because i haven't tried PC Backup yet. But why don't you Ghost it, Back Up copies may be damaged by virus or etc. Arthur, I tried all that you suggested. I got the same result after the clean boot and after a reinstall. It does not matter what I try to backup ie the whole drive or selected folders and it does not matter where I backup to ie my external drive, a flash drive or drive D.

When I stop the backup after it's clear that nothing is happening, it does not seem to stop completely as the notification area tells me a backup is in progress. I suppose the next thing to try is to download the RC again and do another installation. Monday, July 6, PM. I think I am having the same or similar problem. I have 2 problems. The first is the icon 'Backup in Progress' is now permanent in my system tray. The second is the options under 'Back up or restore your files' do not work.

I click on 'manage space, 'Turn on schedule', Change settings or 'Back up now' and nothing happens. I have a second hard drive for use for backups. I decided to combine the partitions and have one large drive.

I didn't notice any problems at the time, but after I formatted the drive and made one volume that is when I noticed things went wrong. I had only drive D: now I have changed drive letters, changed my boot sequence in my bios and disconnected and reconnected the drive. The boot sequence fix I found worked last night, but when I got up this morning and started the computer up again, the icon was back. To me, the problem is the 'Backup and Restore Files' in Windows 7 has lost track of the drive locations and can not find its way again.

Hoping this helps out. I am not the best at typing these things up, so if you need more info let me know. Just for the record, Arthur, the reinstall of Win 7 caused a problem with my AVG firewall by stopping it communicating with a driver NDIS and I had to get support people to solve the problem.

It also played up with my printer which I have been trying for hours to get working again and without success. I keep getting a message that the print spooler is not turned on despite the fact that it is. When I try to print something an error message tells me that a printer is not installed and when I click "Yes" to install it anoth error says the spooler is not runnig so it can't add a printer.

I am now regretting my post about the backup problem as everything was OK up to that point except for the backup software. Today I even downloaded the RC again and did an upgrade again hoping that might fix the printer problem but it didn't so I'm back on Vista.

Thanks for trying anyway. PS: Eventually got the printer to work. Wednesday, July 8, AM. Further information for Arthur, I checked the events viewer log for messages about the backup problem and found one which stated "Access denied" and a great string of numbers and letters. I then activated the Administrator account and logged on as such.

I loaded the backup program and created a backup system image. That worked fine and took about 90 minutes to create it on my external drive. My problem actually started on the very last reboot of the initial install, so that rules out any programs causing the issue. It has to be a driver issue. I sent feedback to MS about it. I figured out the problem. It was my M-Audio Soundcard causing the problem.

It won't let W7 shut it down. Here is a nice work around incase anyone else has this issue:. Window7 will now Automatically stop the Audio services when Shutting Down or Restarting allowing system to complete the process. I got this off the windows seven beta forum from a user. It solved it but then my audio service wouldnt load on startup at random times so I added a net start and now works flawless. Been having this problem on my wife's computer for DAYS For me it was xAudio Whenever I stopped it manually it would reboot just fine But at least the problem dissappeared for a bit.
